I am replying to your letter of (Date) in which you enquire about Mr Name Surname.

Mr Surname was employed as Clerk in this Company from (Month) to (Month) last year. We released him because his work felt below the standards we normally require. His punctuality also left a lot to be desired and he had a disturbing influence on other members of our staff.

Mr Surname is an intelligent man and with his exercise of a little self-discipline he could do well. However, from my personal experience I am afraid that I cannot conscientiously recommend him.
